Diamond brushes - the prerequisite for industry 4.0

Diamond brush Diaflex

Diamond-interspersed natural material with synthetic characteristics

The diamond is not only the "ladies' best friend", but is proving increasingly popular in precision technology. It is considered the hardest natural substance and is the cubic modification of carbon. The name is derived from the Greek and means "invincible".

The structures of the surfaces and edges to be machined are becoming increasingly complex, the demands on the quality of the results to be achieved ever higher. Our specially developed diamond brushes facilitate to meet these requirements: long tool life, precise removal burrs, less abrasion and high process reliability.

Conventional brushes made of silicon carbide and ceramics are often too limited for tooling hard metals to achieve the desired results.  This calls for the hardest material in the world! That is why our Diaflex diamond brushes are mainly used for honing and mirror finishing hard materials.

The new brushes make an additional abrasive medium (polishing paste) unnecessary. The bristles carry the diamond grains already in the filament. Diamond grains are extruded into the base substrate. The bristles are cast or drawn into the aluminium base. Peek or cellulose serves as the base material.

The characteristics of the brushes vary depending on the area of application:

- Poly- or monocrystalline diamond
- Different diamond proportions
- Grain sizes from 0.25µm - 15µm
- Bristle diameter
- Bundle size
- Type of fixing
- Base substrate
- Brush diameter
- Bristle length

The selection of the brush complies with the respective polishing or honing project. René Gerber brush and polishing machines are using brushes with 150 - 380mm as standard sizes.
Odds-on favourite, the use of the diamond brush plays an important role in revolutionising manual machining processes, because partial or full automation means that polishing pastes are no longer required. Put down to the overall simplified process, we achieve a very high level of process reliability. Lengthy cleaning processes due to large amounts of paste contamination are eliminated.

The high proportion of diamond in the filament allows the diamond brush to machine faster, which increases economic efficiency significantly. The edges are honed more evenly and accurately. Residues on the edges are therefore not an issue. The use of oil for cooling keeps the temperature constantly low and has an additional positive influence on the process.
We recommend the diamond brushes primarily for machining indexable inserts, as well as for high-gloss polishing of active elements made of steel or carbide.

Advantages of a diamond brush at a glance:

  • - Perfectly suitable for partial or full automation due to absence of polishing paste
  • - Large amounts of soiling are no longer an issue
  • - Increased economic efficiency
  • - Suitable for machining ultra-hard material
